How to make time for prayer?
In this episode, I talk to Becky Eldredge author of the book, Busy Lives, Restless Souls about making time for prayer. She tells us:
-Why does prayer take such a back seat despite us knowing it’s benefits?
-What are some practical ways we can find more time to pray?
-How do we increase in prayerfulness?
-What do we do when we have this spiritual dryness in our prayer life?
Making Time for Prayer
This is our first podcast for the year! Yay! I contacted Becky in mid December to talk about prayer and through the craziness of New Year we settled on a date. It was fantastic how everything came together. And she was such a joy to talk to. Becky is very big on Ignatian spirituality. Since I’m under similar direction, we share the same perspective.
I loved what one of Becky’s retreat members said of prayer and the daily Examen.
It has made me see that my life is a lot more meaningful than I realize.
Becky also encourages people with spiritual dryness to NEVER STOP PRAYING. She says keep on praying.
THE DAILY EXAMEN
I wanted to share the daily examen so that you can do it everyday. I just lie down and do it bed before I sleep. It takes all of 3 minutes.
I’ve often been encouraged by my spiritual director to pray the Daily Examen. Becky tells us that St. Ignatius asked his pupils to pray it twice a day. It would be great if you could do it just once.
In any case, the message is clear. Find a way to pray and stay prayerful throughout the day. Ask the Lord to order your steps. Becky is hosting a number of retreats and you can take a look at some of them.
