Publishing is a subjective business. Yesterday, I received an email from Roane Publishing. Along with many other authors, the publishers have graciously reverted rights back to all the authors. 😔 They have decided to close down.
So I have Starting Over back again with me in my kitty. It was really something unexpected since we were gearing for our anthology release next month. But they were kind and have already started taking down books from the websites. It seems final!
While it shocked and saddened me, this is a book that’s close to my heart. For two reasons, I wrote this novella in five days straight. It came to me organically in one go! Few of my books have come that way from start to finish. Also, this was the third time my work had won a competition. So I was ecstatic about its release and everything about it.
This was the original cover and I’ll have a new one up soon. Promise!
But publishing changes quickly. The winds of change blow across the publishing industry and there are seismic shifts.
Now that I have the book back, I’ve decided to self-publish this novella after spending some time thinking.🤔 And I will go ahead with the launch as originally planned.
When life gives you lemons, you make margaritas! 😛 No I’ll make lemonade, hehe since I don’t drink. But you get the idea. This will be an autumn release since the USP of this book was all about one stormy afternoon in autumn.
Now that fall is here in many parts of the world, its only right to release this in time with the season.
PUBLISHING WIDE
I guess the lesson is that you do need to be prepared for sweeping changes. It also teaches us not to lay our eggs in one basket. As an author, I’ve spread my work among different publishers, because you never know when someone might shut down. But for an indie it would be best to publish far and wide.
Towards this, TEN REMINDERS FOR THE CHRISTIAN UNEMPLOYED has now been published to all booksellers. AND IT’S FREE.  By next week it will be free everywhere and I’ll be changing the links to reflect that. I felt it wasn’t fair to be charging anyone for this book especially if they didn’t have a job!
Last week I started editing STUMPED, the second book in my contemporary sports romance series for TPP. It was a river of red and I cried every five pages. It was a ruthless edit from my editor.Â
POLL FOR MY NEXT TITLE
I also have a question for the grammarians here. I will be asking this on my facebook page and newsletter readers too. I’m not sure about the word who or whom. Which would be an appropriate title, according to you.
If you pick the other title or third option, please leave me a comment about what that alternate title should be. And if you want to explain, please tell me why who or whom is better.
For those who have read Painting Kuwait Violet or Cinders of Castlerea through the giveaway, please don’t forget to leave a review at your favorite book sellers website and Goodreads.
Happy Reading!
